INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON PLASTICS RECYCLING

Objectives

The valorisation and recycling of plastics is currently the greatest challenge of implementing the circular economy model that allows the use of waste as a starting material. The recycling and, in general, the valorisation of plastic waste is currently the greatest challenge of implementing the circular economy model that allows the use of waste as resources such as new, more sustainable raw materials.

In this Seminar we address the current challenges and opportunities relating to the management and recycling of plastic wastes, as well as raising awareness of all the initiatives that have been put in motion on an international level in order to advance the marked objectives at a European level.

The seminar will address the following topics:

  • Circular economy and plastics recycling.
  • - Collection, sorting and separation.
  • - Mechanical and chemical recycling technologies.
  • - Challenges and major issues of recycling.
  • - Legislation, regulations, certification and characterisation.
  • - Product recyclability.

Distribution of thematic sessions

  • Session 1. Circular economy and plastics recycling.

Global vision of the circular economy strategy and its relation to the recycling of plastics. We will be joined by representatives from the administration and business associations representing the sector.

  • Session 2. Collection, sorting and separation.

Technologies and processes that allow the sorting and separation of plastics through advanced technologies (infrared, hyperspectral, chemical marking, etc.)

  • Session 3. Mechanical recycling.

Solutions in the mechanical recycling of plastics either through technologies, additives, or material production.

  • Session 4. Chemical recycling.

Solutions in the chemical recycling of plastics with technologies such as thermal cracking (pyrolysis, gasification), biological cracking, solvolysis/depolymerisation or physical/chemical recycling (dissolutions, precipitations and extractions).

  • Session 5. Challenges and major issues of recycling.

Solutions to the major challenges of recycling, multilayer packaging, reinforced thermosets, elastomers, end-of-life tyres, polyurethanes, etc.

  • Session 6. Legislation, regulations, certification and characterisation. Product recyclability.

New developments in the characterisation of recycled plastic materials, applicable legislation and regulations, product recyclability, certification systems, and eco-labels
